Towards a Hybrid Design Approach of Anchored Drapery Systems

Anchored drapery meshes represent a worldwide adopted protective solution against rockfall. The mechanical performance of wire mesh is evaluated through laboratory procedures in which the boundary conditions strongly differ from ones typical field applications. This shows that characterization is, general, not representative behavior. In this work, referring to double-twisted mesh, simple approach allowing extension characteristic values proposed. based on definition analytical relations for evaluating effects both mesh’s system geometry and loading condition force–displacement response. These are derived previously calibrated tests extended different configurations basis large number discrete element simulations. A master curve prediction entire response general configuration then defined. results study can provide useful information designing anchored systems be easily associated with standard limit equilibrium calculations move toward hybrid design couples forces deformations.
